Palms of his Hands

See, I have inscribed you on the palms of My hands; your walls are continually before Me.

—Isaiah 49:16

The walls the Lord speaks of here are walls of protection, and this means that our protection is a continual concern to the Lord. I like that! That means that what Isaiah wrote a few chapters later about the weapons formed against us not prospering (Isa. 54:17) is true, because God has put a hedge of protection around us. We know the enemy never stops firing his fiery darts at us, but there is an unseen wall of protection surrounding us.

Some might be thinking, Then why do bad things happen to God’s people? Why do some darts make it through if God’s wall of protection is always around us? I do not know, nor does anyone else, why God sometimes allows pain, sorrow, or even tragedy into the life of a believer, but this I do know: the fiery dart of the second death will never penetrate the walls of the true believer. How do I know this? Because we are inscribed on the palms of the hands of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ!

The one thing that all people ought to fear, death, can never come near us. We can never be separated from the love of God, even through death. God has us in His hands today, and our protection is continually before Him. He will never leave us nor forsake us, (Heb. 13:5), and He upholds us by His righteous right hand (Isa. 41:10). How do we know this for sure?

Nail prints.

The cross is your guarantee of protection from the second death, and nothing can change that. You have been inscribed on the palms of His hands. Someone else needs to know this today, so tell them and watch what the Lord will do for them and through you!
